A Year in the Woods

At last, after being showered with rain for weeks the sun came out and everything started coming to life in the woods after the sleepy winter months and the slow start to spring.

The leaves that started to sprout last month are fresh and green. The horsechestnuts by the wishing bridge make giant umbrellas for sheltering from the spring showers.

The hawthorns blossum pretty white and pinkish flowers all through the woods, along the track to Pear Tree Corner and in the Water Meadows, scattering the paths with tiny petals whenever the wind blows.

Walking in the woods today                       Or perhaps it was just a bluebell

I saw a flash of blue                                  Fluttering in the breeze

Could it have been a fairy                          How I wish it was a fairy

In a dress of such a hue?                           Hiding amongst the leaves!
